Research and work

Research focus

  • structural and biophysical characterization of human norovirus-like particles composed of the capsid protein VP1
  • investigation of alternative capsid architectures (T = 1, T = 3, T = 4) arising during VLP production
  • analysis of how N-terminal truncations and targeted point mutations influence capsid assembly, stability, and heterogeneity

Methods & approaches

  • native mass spectrometry and charge-detection MS for determining particle mass, stoichiometry, and assembly states
  • single-particle cryo-electron microscopy for high-resolution visualization of structure, conformational changes, and subunit organization
  • atomic force microscopy for nanoscale analysis of capsid morphology, elasticity, and topology

Expertise

  • atomic force microscopy (AFM)
  • single-particle cryo-EM
  • native MS and charge-detection MS in the megadalton range
