Research and work

Research focus

  • propagation and characterization of viral and virus-like particles (noroviruses, Ebola VLPs, mCMV, PRV, adenoviruses)
  • cultivation and comparative analysis of diverse SARS-CoV-2 strains, including virus inactivation studies
  • propagation of influenza strains and influenza A derivatives/mutants
  • purification and inactivation workflows for viruses
  • isolation of MHC class I and II complexes from murine and human dendritic cells

Methods & approaches

  • virological workflows including virus growth, concentration, and handling under biosafety conditions
  • cell-based assays using mammalian and insect cell culture systems
  • biochemical isolation and preparation of protein complexes
  • molecular and cellular techniques supporting viral pathogenesis studies

Expertise

  • in-vitro cultivation of animal and insect cells for various applications such as basic research, drug development, and biotechnological production
  • signal transduction in intracellular virus replication and viral gene therapy in knockout mouse systems
  • bone marrow transplantation in mice
